Tex-Mex Food Politics

Tex-Mex food politics gets served up with my opening words, “Enough with the cheese!”
I’m honored to be the very first guest on this new video podcast hosted by two inspiring Texas leaders: Representative Christina Morales (District 145) and Representative Ana-Maria Ramos (District 102). They are fierce, visionary, and deeply rooted in community, and it was a privilege to sit down with them.
Our conversation begins with food—not just as nourishment, but as a powerful cultural activity. Food connects us to memory, shapes our ethical choices, and strengthens community by reminding us who we are. It’s always shared, always social, and always political. Some may claim otherwise, but food is never neutral. From Tex-Mex food politics and erased histories to immigration, tariffs, and LGBTQ+ voices, we explore how culture, identity, and justice are all on the table.
