One Laptop Per Child

Alberto sent me this link about Negroponte’s effort at installing and integrating computer technology into high poverty communities, “One Laptop Per Child.”
This open source laptop is designed to grow in the hands of the users, with every piece of software open and maleable, with no proprietary interventions. “This really is something new in the history of computing. It’s the economics of scale involved in producing an open platform in the hundreds of millions a year that will change things. This isn’t the same as the Linux community begging existing vendors like Dell and HP to pre-install Linux on existing laptops; this is a new open platform designed around Free Software.”
